How It Works at Our Clinic

1. Book your appointment — by phone or online. Let us know you are a CDCP patient when you book.
2. We verify your coverage — our team confirms your CDCP status and what is covered before your visit.
3. Come in for your exam — bring the documents listed here. Your dentist will review your oral health and discuss a treatment plan.
4. We bill the government directly — for covered services, we submit the claim on your behalf. You pay only your co-payment (if any) after the visit.

How Claims Work — Sun Life Direct Billing

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is administered by Sun Life Financial on behalf of the federal government. As a registered provider, Dentistry on Guelph submits your claims electronically to Sun Life. Here is what that means for you:

• No paperwork for you — we handle the claim submission after each visit
• Payments go directly from Sun Life to our clinic — you only pay your portion (if any)
• Most claims are processed within 5 business days
• You will receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from Sun Life by mail or online after each claim

What CDCP Covers at Our Guelph Clinic

As a registered CDCP provider, we offer the full range of CDCP-covered services:

• Diagnostic: comprehensive exams, recall exams, X-rays (bitewing, periapical, panoramic)
• Preventive: scaling (cleaning), polishing, fluoride treatments
• Restorative: fillings (composite and amalgam based on clinical need)
• Endodontic: root canal treatment (anterior and premolar teeth)
• Periodontal: scaling and root planing for gum disease
• Prosthodontic: dentures and partial dentures for eligible patients
• Oral surgery: extractions, including wisdom teeth (when clinically necessary)

Coverage depends on age, income, and clinical need. Our team will check exactly what is covered for you before any treatment begins — you will never face a surprise charge.

Common Questions

Do I qualify for CDCP?

Most Canadians with a family income under $90,000 and no private dental insurance qualify. You must have filed your most recent tax return. The plan is now open to all eligible Canadians. Read our full CDCP guide for detailed eligibility information.

What dental services does CDCP cover?

CDCP covers preventive care (cleanings, X-rays), diagnostic exams, restorative care (fillings), and other treatments depending on your age and needs. Our team will confirm what is covered for you before any treatment begins.

Do I have to pay anything?

CDCP covers the full cost for patients with family incomes under $70,000. For incomes between $70,000 and $90,000, a co-payment of 40–60% applies. We collect only your co-payment — we bill the government directly for the rest.

I currently go to another dentist. Can I switch to you?

Yes. CDCP does not require you to stay with one provider. You are free to book with any registered clinic, including ours.
